A Son Abides Forever
Was just reading in John 8. I know it must have saddened Jesus but angered Him at the same time when He told those who thought they were so perfect, "I AM going away and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come." I could not bear to hear those words! He spoke to them about the Father, but they didn't understand Him. Then He told them in Verse 28 when they lift Him up on the Cross pretty soon, they would finally realize He really was the One (The Son of the living GOD). My youngest son once wrote a powerful song entitled, "He Really Was The One.) I pray He records it soon.
Jesus told them in Verse 29 "And He Who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone; for I always do those things that please Him." As He spoke these words, many believed in Him. (Verse 30). Then in 31 Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My Word, you are My disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." They talked among themselves and said, "We've never been in bondage to anyone, we don't need to be free, we are slaves to no one." Jesus replied, "Whoever commits sin, is a slave of sin."
They didn't slip up and sin once in a while, they lived in it and practiced it, so Jesus loved them enough to tell them the truth. He told them they followed their father, the devil, who is a liar, "and the desires of your father, you want to do." They told Jesus, "We have one Father: GOD." (Verse 41) But they deceived themselves, and wouldn't listen to the truth from Jesus' Own Mouth. Jesus told them in 47th Verse, "He who is of GOD hears GOD's Words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of GOD."
Please don't deceive yourself. It is the worst deception of all. In 35 and 36, Jesus told them if they were in bondage (that is, a slave to sin, and living in it), they will "not abide in the house forever; but a son abides forever; therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." Back to the beautiful promise Jesus gives us in John 8:31, 32 "Jesus said to those who believed Him, "If you stay in My Word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
